<br /></div>
With fall finally having arrived this week around here, I am ready to get this year's holiday gift making into really going. Today I posted a quick tutorial over on the Clearsnap Blog on how to make a quick and easy recipe box.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTk-mSFCeRCnotDghNuShUkE07TswWk-VCCgXJ37lmSe0HqoRclRcoIs0nPR-AuzZmYgaTl1N8AYl8RlzkoL448WJyJnuUSiRtjejzac6vufCOjqJgdEZ7KscfP_3Xryt5Slzlbd3wink/s1600/essential_oil_recipe_box+hollybking+for+clearsnap+2015+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTk-mSFCeRCnotDghNuShUkE07TswWk-VCCgXJ37lmSe0HqoRclRcoIs0nPR-AuzZmYgaTl1N8AYl8RlzkoL448WJyJnuUSiRtjejzac6vufCOjqJgdEZ7KscfP_3Xryt5Slzlbd3wink/s400/essential_oil_recipe_box+hollybking+for+clearsnap+2015+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
I plan to give these adorable recipe boxes filled with my favorite essential oil recipes away as gifts this holiday season. The only thing better than a homemade gift is a homemade gift that you can use to enhance your life and enjoy all year long!<br />
<br />
Head over to the <a href="http://blog.clearsnap.com/2015/11/diy-essential-oil-recipe-box/">Clearsnap Blog and check out my quick tutorial! </a>holly*http://www.blogger.com/profile/00887019014297987182noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049278994738374397.post-73302159617567743512015-10-03T09:00:00.000-07:002015-10-03T09:00:01.180-07:00Cleaning up (our wood floors) with doTERRA!I'm still relatively new to this whole essential oil thing, but its rapidly (and easily) taking over our household (and my friends too! THANKS, GUINEA PIGS!) You name it, I want to make it. Go figure, right?!<br />
<br />
This past week I was in need of some floor cleaner and I made it. Between the internet in general and Pinterest, there are TONS of places to find ideas & recipes for all things essential oil. Don't believe me? Just check out (and follow!)<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/hollystar/health-essential-oils/"> my essential oil Pinterest board</a>! ...it grows daily....<br />
<br />
So, I stumbled into a great bounty of a website: <a href="http://thepaleomama.com/">thePaleoMama.com</a>! I based my floor cleaner recipe on hers and love it! The recipe the Paleo Mama posted (<a href="http://thepaleomama.com/2014/03/cleaning-floors-essential-oils/">here</a>) is for a bucket of cleaner, but I wanted something I could mix into a 16 ounce glass bottle with a sprayer. When cleaning our floors, I use a sweeping/mopping robot for the bulk of our hardwood floors and then scrub the stairs with a cloth. Instead of dipping a dirty rag into a bucket of increasingly dirty water, I spray our floors allowing the robot and myself to have at least fresh cleaner as we make progress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH9If0bwmokGJbqTByoaJxNxxZHWivIq3WsMXluzpZGSxrPkYNcSkWu-1fPnoPPt4m1zlwb4JscG_vndx8qEUMpBiA5zk2eOwq9juKmSRaME0Ulr3lox_FnT0DHfQS02S5iTVg-wP2AcY/s1600/IMG_20151002_141747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH9If0bwmokGJbqTByoaJxNxxZHWivIq3WsMXluzpZGSxrPkYNcSkWu-1fPnoPPt4m1zlwb4JscG_vndx8qEUMpBiA5zk2eOwq9juKmSRaME0Ulr3lox_FnT0DHfQS02S5iTVg-wP2AcY/s400/IMG_20151002_141747.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I scaled down the Paleo Mama's recipe and got the following recipe for my 16 ounce bottle:<br />
<br />
2 tablespoons White Vinegar<br />
1 teaspoon Castile Soap (I had Dr. Bronner's Sensitive on hand)<br />
2 drops doTERRA Wild Orange<br />
3 drops doTERRA Lemon<br />
1 drop doTERRA Melaleuca<br />
Filtered Water<br />
<br />
Using a funnel, measure and add white vinegar, castile soap, and essential oils to glass bottle. Fill remaining void with water. Shake and set aside for an hour or so while the soap dissolves. Once solution appears clear, shake again and spray liberally to any and all wood surfaces you would like to clean. Just remember that separation (of oils) is natural and always shake before use.<br />
<br />
The possibilities and scents for this cleaner are endless... well, as endless as your essential oil collection. I think my next batch will be a woodsier scent or, hell, pumpkin spice. Why not? 'tis the season!<br />
<br />
I'm really considering hosting a doTERRA crafting party. Between household products to skincare and beyond, the possibilities are endless and would be an amazing girls night out! thoughts? would you come hang with me if you got a bath bomb out of it?!?!<br />
<br />
Have questions regarding getting started with essential oils? Feel free to contact me! Whether you're looking to invest in doTERRA's oils (please feel free to sign up through <a href="http://mydoterra.com/hollybking">my website found here</a>!) or you have questions regarding all things essential oil, I would love to talk to you about it!holly*http://www.blogger.com/profile/00887019014297987182noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049278994738374397.post-59542227059505439032015-10-01T21:20:00.000-07:002015-10-01T21:20:32.265-07:00Super Cute! My First 10k "Run"I really want to buy one of those baby frames and put a photo from my first race in it. I didn't finish with the best time, but I finished and that in itself is an accomplishment!<br />
<br />
I spend the better part of the week before the race trying to talk myself out of it. I had a cut on my pinky toe from a few days before. I didn't know where to go for bib pick up. I didn't know how bib pick up worked. My kids were driving me crazy. Husband was super busy at work. The race started in the *gasp* morning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHZlIhbAvI9w_BFlPssUDdDzVRgjhUtwBJBUnqjOm_nOKVMp_6XkQkA4ujR8jm2qrfFz4zSO9QNlE7bIgvOquZj69EUK5DayMC4svyKPpOopQIhGwxPW3SbQeYU0uz_CFOtlF9h7OPtfo/s1600/IMG_20150927_074628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHZlIhbAvI9w_BFlPssUDdDzVRgjhUtwBJBUnqjOm_nOKVMp_6XkQkA4ujR8jm2qrfFz4zSO9QNlE7bIgvOquZj69EUK5DayMC4svyKPpOopQIhGwxPW3SbQeYU0uz_CFOtlF9h7OPtfo/s400/IMG_20150927_074628.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
But, I figured it out, got there and started. Then I wanted to stop. After waiting 40 minutes for the *cough* last corral to start, the masses in front of me started to move and so did I. Starting strong..ish... my calves started to revolt. Cramped into a coral doesn't really do much for the effort I took to stretch. So I slowed to a brisk walk knowing they would warm up and they did... after mile 2 was done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5b8484TWQA3u-5LS7tAlXvjWaT1ZMb2l-SjM20drNlIznzjqoQwn8JAGRD9s61kSIRUp47pKErafHcGInuj-Fk5g-GscWgEIU8Un6S3S0qLmUeavMeY6WomKk7fTbTAnIZlzZaa0GO6w/s1600/IMG_20150927_080916.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5b8484TWQA3u-5LS7tAlXvjWaT1ZMb2l-SjM20drNlIznzjqoQwn8JAGRD9s61kSIRUp47pKErafHcGInuj-Fk5g-GscWgEIU8Un6S3S0qLmUeavMeY6WomKk7fTbTAnIZlzZaa0GO6w/s400/IMG_20150927_080916.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
By that time, I was about to pee my pants. The course had plenty of portapotties... but they also had abundant lines. I stopped at one... thinking it would be quick. After 6 minutes and the line NOT moving... and the sounds coming from within... I decided to move along. Mile 3 passed. I couldn't hold it any longer... and I certainly couldn't run any longer with out fear of leaking... So I stopped... again... the line moved quite quickly this time but it was many people deep. 11 minutes later, I could move again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I made up some time and I even finished with a personal time of 1:20 which was my goal... Race results on the other hand shows 1:37... oh well. I got this shiny medal, a confidence boost, and a great 1st run in hindsight. Looking forward to Beat the Blerch (Sacramento) in November. Until then, we just keep training!<br />

This summer has been one big "off track" adventure. Weight loss has been slow but I have returned home 5 lbs lighter and able to "run" for 4+ miles which is a good thing because I have a 10k coming up at the end of September! All in all, the summer was great, but we're glad to be home and get back on track.<br />
<br />
On the way home I meal planned for the week. After getting mostly unpacked, I hit the stores and started our meal prep for the week.<br />
<br />
**What meal prep for us right now is completing lunches for myself and my husband for each week day, prepping healthy snacks with easy access, and then making sure its easy to assemble dinner each night for our family of four. If this work is done, our family has easy healthy options and we eat out less and feel better with a healthier diet.**<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Shopping List: Lunches<br />
<br />
3 Chicken Breasts<br />
Beef Tritip<br />
Albacore Tuna<br />
Mixed Greens<br />
Green Beans<br />
Super Food Stir Fry Kit (Costco)<br />
Whole Wheat Pasta<br />
Misc Garden Veg<br />
Fresh Garlic<br />
Favorite Seasoning Blend<br />
<br />
Keeping things simple this week, my plan started with a grilled tritip for dinner on Sunday night. To prep the rest, I seasoned the chicken breasts with a cajun seasoning blend and fresh garlic. While chicken was cooking with a smidge of olive oil, I started the stir fry mix in a pan and cooked my pasta as directed. Once stir fry was done, I placed it into its designated container and used the remaining stir fry sauce to steam the green beans. I also assembled a tuna salad to use as a snack and a meal for one day. Most containers contain 1 cup vegetables + 1/2 pasta + 4 ounce protein.<br />
<br />
In the photos you can notice the differences between mine and husband's meals. I prefer chicken and dislike raw onion. He loathes cucumber...<br />
<br />
Meal 1:<br />
Spring Mix Salad with Chicken Breast (no dressing for me, blue cheese crumbles for husband)<br />
Meal 2:<br />
Chicken or Grilled Tritip with Pasta & Green Beans<br />
Meal 3:<br />
Tuna Salad and Crackers<br />
Meal 4:<br />
Grilled Tritip and Grean Beans<br />
Meal 5:<br />
Chicken Breast with Pasta & Green Beans<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Sometimes the most boring meal preps are the most exciting! Don't mind me, I'm off to have some lunch!<br />
<br />

<br />holly*http://www.blogger.com/profile/00887019014297987182noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049278994738374397.post-7999858278688410372015-07-24T07:16:00.000-07:002015-07-24T07:16:00.184-07:00the struggle is somewhat real...Right now, I'm struggling. I see my goals, but my body is fighting me. This week was a little eratic and unpredictable and I have struggled everyday to accomplish my goals. I have not done any 5k training this week. I've only run a couple miles and I only put in about an hour with HIIT videos and/or weights.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are currently visiting family and I am NOT in my element. I miss (but still hate) my trainer. I miss real gym equipement. I miss my kitchen & cookbooks. I miss my routine of working on my planners on Fridays and making a plan for the upcoming weekend & following week. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And thats it. I don't have a plan. BUT, today is the perfect time to come to this realization. Its Planner Friday and I can make a plan to keep me motivated, fueled, energized, and rested.<br />
<br />
After sitting down and thinking of what is affecting my energy levels and recovery times, I need to focus on two things: food & work out plan. Today I sifted through<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIjv8w3MQoQ1gicDtayx987AFqFzyTWK693fFlqXzg1BtVksYBAH9r81b_WZJ1TkWrg4wcM0anZJAHPxo04MUdPZ8sHS0MbuFj_31eXJhnQxUDZpJQSXtkoXq6cuRQXjrYx5ZLjsnuhwc/w639-h876-no/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aria-label="Photo - Portrait - Jul 17, 2015" border="0" class="SzDcob" height="400" jsname="uLHQEd" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIjv8w3MQoQ1gicDtayx987AFqFzyTWK693fFlqXzg1BtVksYBAH9r81b_WZJ1TkWrg4wcM0anZJAHPxo04MUdPZ8sHS0MbuFj_31eXJhnQxUDZpJQSXtkoXq6cuRQXjrYx5ZLjsnuhwc/w639-h876-no/" style="transform: translateZ(0px);" width="291" /></a></div>
<br />
Meal Plan Monday is about it be a thing again. I have kept on track with snacks lately with snacks (in LOVE with <a href="http://simplesquares.com/">Simple Squares</a>) and juicing, so those aren't really my problem areas with food atm other than I'm not working out enough to really take advantage of the benefits. Side note, I'm going to steal ALL the juice recipes... Taking over the cooking at my mom/grandma's house will be HUGE this week.<br />
<br />
<br />
I have also been saving pretty much every work out from <a href="https://www.fitnessblender.com/">FitnessBlender</a> on youTube. Their videos seem approachable and modify-able. This week I think I am going to work on their fat burning/muscle building challenge as a sort of boot camp to get me back in gear. I really miss my trainer. Who knew THAT would happen...<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/IR31lyaxJE4/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IR31lyaxJE4?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With a challenge in mind for the week, I think I will keep running goals slow. Continue using the Zombies, RUN! 5K training app 3 days this week (meaning Friday-Thursday) and aim for a sunrise walk with my grandma. She walks a 24ish minute mile every morning. Very mellow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here goes nothing... Do you have any tips for getting back on track? I'de LOVE to hear them!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy Friday! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieNd3AxTekmKspFWpv6uDyGiwkrwIaBx11D0Tf6_DHdks2idh49TtjER5I8_X40btzFaytjedGB_T8sNVJI0UsdyVd0Sy65Nxce97XySr9xQDLhgNkGBxb9quWUGCT4cGcfizzDfKT2ps/s1600/hundreds+of+apples+hollybking+experience+life+wisely.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieNd3AxTekmKspFWpv6uDyGiwkrwIaBx11D0Tf6_DHdks2idh49TtjER5I8_X40btzFaytjedGB_T8sNVJI0UsdyVd0Sy65Nxce97XySr9xQDLhgNkGBxb9quWUGCT4cGcfizzDfKT2ps/s320/hundreds+of+apples+hollybking+experience+life+wisely.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
simply put... I got fed the fuck up. <span id="goog_429205617"></span><span id="goog_429205618"></span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I enjoy volunteering my "talents" to the communities that surround me. This past spring I stuck my neck out just a little too far and was left feeling abused and taken advantage of. With out getting into the ugly details and finger pointing, I can confidently state that I finally learned my lesson of where to draw the line in terms of "giving" my time. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After the dust settled from the last event I volunteered to chair, I spent a lot of time thinking about what I did wrong; what I could have done differently; what I could change. And the answer to all of the above was nothing. NOTHING. There was nothing I could have done that would have made this fundraiser a more successful event.<br />
<br />
Following that train of thought, if I could do nothing. then what was I doing there at all? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I looked around at our um... lived in house... at our two kids who need nothing more than my time and here I am GIVING it to other causes and I thought "where are my priorities?" </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOetYsPTP4UmEFRSDIqo9Nk8dKg2T1TWoeYabJgtD8vGELuxwd3fgtioLfUxKbZZo4Wu5TnyUc2mpuR4jFPBTzUpWYgPM8k7fBCaX6j_3is0bNAne4VI-jiUILwjTqmqH9gkEdKkTpoMc/s1600/50th+hollybking+experience+life+wisely.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOetYsPTP4UmEFRSDIqo9Nk8dKg2T1TWoeYabJgtD8vGELuxwd3fgtioLfUxKbZZo4Wu5TnyUc2mpuR4jFPBTzUpWYgPM8k7fBCaX6j_3is0bNAne4VI-jiUILwjTqmqH9gkEdKkTpoMc/s320/50th+hollybking+experience+life+wisely.jpg" width="320" /></a>Once there, I started looking at each thing in my life and I made a list of what I wanted to do with my time and where it ranked. My list looked something like this:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Our Family (live an active life with my children, encouraging and nurturing them into the amazing human beings they have the potential to be)</div>
<div>
2. My Marriage (spend time and effort cultivating the relationship I have and hope to have with my husband) </div>
<div>
3. Health and Fitness Goals (regain control of my eating habits and activity levels) </div>
<div>
4. Future Planning (spending time and effort adding to our financial goals/gains and security) </div>
<div>
5. Friendships (grow true and meaningful relationships with friends from the past, present and future) <br />
<br />
Volunteering and helping others (on a MUCH smaller scale, with smaller roles) was and still on the list, but, RIGHT NOW, its not a top five priority. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once I could articulate my priorities, I could really see that I have been missing the mark on the things that were and are the most important... at least in my head. I found it heartbreaking that I gave away so much of myself when it was in no way beneficial to my goals. BUT, it marked a change in me and a change for the better. Since sitting down with my broken heart and my list, I have made changes and I'm seeing results. While my example of a "breaking point" is completely a first world problem, it was enough to have me evaluate and strive towards goals that truly impact MY life and I am a better person for it.<br />
<br />
Have you taken time to think about your priorities? Are you living your life how you want to?<br />
<br /></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirWfrI2rWtU_ciPoC4FfOSHgrwKlp7EwdEp7YRtdPZ6JZ4E1BmDKN3VZXK-GWfuDm9wzjylXhqRkzqzSoUfD04WJlqsy8B3VqUXE95buKzPiek3wicRBcPpNtGddQziMjPI0xQxoHXsmM/s1600/texas+treadmill+hollybking+experience+life+wisely.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirWfrI2rWtU_ciPoC4FfOSHgrwKlp7EwdEp7YRtdPZ6JZ4E1BmDKN3VZXK-GWfuDm9wzjylXhqRkzqzSoUfD04WJlqsy8B3VqUXE95buKzPiek3wicRBcPpNtGddQziMjPI0xQxoHXsmM/s400/texas+treadmill+hollybking+experience+life+wisely.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For the past year or so, I have been working on my personal health... or at least thinking about it. It all started with a fitbit. Tracking movement (or lack there of) really got me thinking about what I do everyday... How was I moving? What was I eating? Where was time going?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Over the summer of 2014 I moved more and I ate better and I lost 25lbs or so going into the fall. Then traveling husband and holidays happened and off the wagon I fell... tumbled... crashed in a horrific fiery explosion. KA-POW! In the spring of 2015 I started moving again but I also was working on a fundraiser that pushed me over my stress edge and into the land of eating out and playing video games. Along with some family drama, life was causing problems and I really didn't have motivation to do more. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I never really fully got back onto the wagon after all. Long story short, the stress of the fundraiser got me to my breaking point of "eff this, i'm out..." drops mic... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Which was good in reality. I looked deeply at my obligations, where I spent my time, and what was valuable to me at the end of the day. I found the power to say no. To stop. To take the time to do what was important to me. I MADE PRIORITIES. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the list of my top 5 priorities, my personal health popped back up. Somehow I got it into my head that I wanted to run. There was a goal... How was I going to get there? When was I going to run? What did running mean? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
How? I was going to find a place where childcare would not be an issue and I was going to work out. I was going to move. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When? Star Wars Half Marathon in January 2016. Done. (ps. is it crazy to sign up for a half marathon with out running ever before in my adult life? lil bit? k.) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What does this mean? It means I'm going to develop healthy habits and gain a more active lifestyle. Weight loss, strength training, endurance training, sweating a lot... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One day, I wrote in my planner to look into gyms. You know, find some... price them... see about childcare... then not do anything about it. Later that day, I stopped into a local gym... and joined. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Just. Like. That. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, just about two months later, I've made some gains, hired a trainer, have experienced pains I didn't know could exist, and typed a very long post. There is more in there... but I'll talk about that more later... just happy to be moving again, no matter how long the road ahead of me is... </div>
<div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: right;">
<span style="font-size: x-large; text-align: center;">Happy National Scrapbook Day 2015!! </span></div>
<br />
To kick off this NSD right, I thought I would share something HIGHLY appropriate. My very 1st layout of 2015.... dun dun duuuuuuuuuuun....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Atvt2oV50x4s9syXQqMflUGACegMjSCYw_rchAvgKrJ1mupN-07TXitAe3eozcjNcpBshfXTQ73Lwa9Q6jAKiADPo38JgMePDOc_2l5z9cz1gI9Q_ozfd2lRkoF14ImpENIwxGHMQRg/s1600/IMG_5788.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Atvt2oV50x4s9syXQqMflUGACegMjSCYw_rchAvgKrJ1mupN-07TXitAe3eozcjNcpBshfXTQ73Lwa9Q6jAKiADPo38JgMePDOc_2l5z9cz1gI9Q_ozfd2lRkoF14ImpENIwxGHMQRg/s1600/IMG_5788.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of my scrapbooks these days are filled with pocket pages. They work well for me and I can mostly keep up with our daily lives. But, every now and again, I like to throw a good ol' 12x12 layout into the mix. In honor of NSD, here is my current take on traditional scrapbooking. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8bQzWcTYDgDhlIbv98nAIsTvlflMVOxtBonhTDNEZpr2ppcLVokxOXqFdYWaaInHFIZLdhJ9SI2smx2yUXiOcl5QObz43sJChAEG6HAMbn7ZmtDLawTYHiD8F9QOTiIH8S-kG1Nm2Poo/s1600/IMG_5791.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8bQzWcTYDgDhlIbv98nAIsTvlflMVOxtBonhTDNEZpr2ppcLVokxOXqFdYWaaInHFIZLdhJ9SI2smx2yUXiOcl5QObz43sJChAEG6HAMbn7ZmtDLawTYHiD8F9QOTiIH8S-kG1Nm2Poo/s1600/IMG_5791.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I mean, look at all those goodies I can get onto the page. They really do capture parts of our Pip! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What are your plans for NSD? I have my regular Saturday night crop to attend and I will be co-hosting an all day crop on the 16th! Hopefully I can get a few more layouts done for the album and keep things interesting! </div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">A little bit from out sponsors...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Chances are, if you are reading this blog you love to scrapbook. Today, scrapbooking takes on many different forms from the traditional 12x12 layouts to smaller formats like 8.5 x 11, 6x6 and the ever growing popular pocket scrapbooking. Whichever form you prefer, we are all story tellers and love to preserve our family memories for generations to come. That is why I love that we take out the first Saturday each May to celebrate this wonderful hobby.
As you hang out at crops at your Local Scrapbooking Store or perhaps just have a group of friends over for an in home crop, we have a wonderful hop here to inspire you as you pull out your pictures, papers, embellishments and the ever important adhesive to hold all these together and tell your stories! We have a great group of bloggers and scrapbookers just like you joining us today so I hope you will take a moment to visit each one.

<br />
<br />
To create these cards I used a variety of vivid ColorBox inks with ColorBox Art Daubers and a couple fun stencils.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeLBziBiqkuQNh7mHUtY9Hw0I1xQduPYJcJdXoQ7i73lpTWeeoTHWPE-rMD9LZDBiJ2zwbkRlFOI-Pi47xNVJYZgdi0-kAKjLEfNfkCBvSDk2G5Of9rcgx8uSxBh6l-uPdNv8liP0eifA/s1600/IMG_5743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeLBziBiqkuQNh7mHUtY9Hw0I1xQduPYJcJdXoQ7i73lpTWeeoTHWPE-rMD9LZDBiJ2zwbkRlFOI-Pi47xNVJYZgdi0-kAKjLEfNfkCBvSDk2G5Of9rcgx8uSxBh6l-uPdNv8liP0eifA/s1600/IMG_5743.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Art Daubers are the perfect tool to get the most out of a detailed stencil while flawlessly blending your inks.<br />

The ice cream cones were no challenge even with the layering of two colors. The cones even have some really cool shadowing that just magically happened independent of my efforts. LOVE IT!<br />

I was having so much fun with this color scheme, it worked its way into another project. Here is a sneak peak of a card made using the incredible Art Wheel to layer gorgeous colors from a ColorBox Queue. Check back soon for a new tutorial with details on this artful and easy technique!<br />

<br />
I have been blessed with an amazing group of friends who LOVE to send each other cards. I mean, really, who doesn't love getting a little something special in the mail? That being said, I always need to have a few unique cards on hand to send out in reply to a friend or for no reason at all!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBvwuCoE0o-3RrU2dEymvWLl5cL1-v94CiVtB2MLkgi7DCWn4x-ku6bjeMMS6QMRa6GuFpV5tU0qu_EqiDQFDrXquAHDbvOhS_PmZgfq2z40rL5q-nUnsME_7YlaqVKD6EV1SyLGxgXdQ/s1600/holly+king+for+clearsnap+april2015+tombow+blog+hop+all+occassion+cards+05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBvwuCoE0o-3RrU2dEymvWLl5cL1-v94CiVtB2MLkgi7DCWn4x-ku6bjeMMS6QMRa6GuFpV5tU0qu_EqiDQFDrXquAHDbvOhS_PmZgfq2z40rL5q-nUnsME_7YlaqVKD6EV1SyLGxgXdQ/s1600/holly+king+for+clearsnap+april2015+tombow+blog+hop+all+occassion+cards+05.jpg" height="398" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Not always knowing what occasions will pop up, I created a set of cards that will not let me down. On a piece of smooth white cardstock, a full sized <a href="http://www.clearsnap.com/pigment-ink">Clearnsnap Colorbox pigment ink pad</a> makes a great background swatch of color. The variety which these pigment inks are available in is stunning. I have used the following colors: sweet melon, royal blue, sunflower, and ocean.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0iRQGcV9IRtMLUCtmF1-Ip0Bpy3i4dLjEpZCTZZ4-fHtbq8NkWb0peayZJD9h4GciErL0SYqlL__h9W5jiHk3qd61uYZ_Ua40xtZfBXeK0lIPZt5zdUNO_ei7xTChjCFx9XPrQnjkqew/s1600/holly+king+for+clearsnap+april2015+tombow+blog+hop+all+occassion+cards+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0iRQGcV9IRtMLUCtmF1-Ip0Bpy3i4dLjEpZCTZZ4-fHtbq8NkWb0peayZJD9h4GciErL0SYqlL__h9W5jiHk3qd61uYZ_Ua40xtZfBXeK0lIPZt5zdUNO_ei7xTChjCFx9XPrQnjkqew/s1600/holly+king+for+clearsnap+april2015+tombow+blog+hop+all+occassion+cards+02.jpg" height="398" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Once your color swatch is completely dry, use the incredible <a href="http://tombowusa.com/craft/adhesives/mono-glue-pen.html">Tombow glue pen</a> and write your greeting. No stamps. No clean up. Just write what's on your mind and in your heart! The Tombow glue pen has a great flow of adhesive that works amazing with all types of teeny mediums.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Quickly cover your glue writing in <a href="http://www.clearsnap.com/colorbox-embossing-powder">ColorBox Embossing Powder in white</a>, shake off excess, and use a heat tool to melt/fix your powder. Mount your white cardstock onto a coordinating piece of colored cardstock and you are all done.<br />

After the Christmas season has past, I always want to de-clutter the house and keep the decorations (if any are even allowed) simple. This year Valentines Day was allowed to be festive. A <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70236127/">new table runner from Ikea</a>, a few candles in pretty containers (after christmas sales at <a href="http://www.worldmarket.com/category/home-decorating/candles-and-candle-holders/candles.do">World Market</a>), and simple ribbon and paper garlands for the windows....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The first project we tackled were simple paper heart chains. The boy cut strips of 1" paper out of scraps (more on that later) and used a simple stapler to create a chain to adorn the window in his room.<br />

The boy was quite pleased with his handy work once we draped it over his curtain rod. Great project for smaller hands and short attention spans!<br />

(Terrible photo, but the boy's room is mid-sprucing. Reveal to come...)</div>
<br />
Next, I worked a bit more solo and got out the trusty <a href="http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/">Silhouette</a>. It always feels nice to dust off one of those fancy crafting machines that I just had to have! Not to mention use some of my stockpiled credit in the silhouette store. That too.<br />
<br />
One slightly gloomy afternoon, my silhouette got a great work out. Knowing I wanted to pull together something Valentines like, I hit the paper scrap stash hard to gather materials. I sort my paper scraps by color, kinda. In a set of these drawers, I have 3 groups of colors: 1) red, pinks, oranges, & yellows 2) blues, greens, & purples 3) whites, browns, blacks, & greys. This system has worked well for me for many years now. Most importantly, it limits the amount of scraps I can have at any one point, its a pretty nifty feeling to use scraps for a project rather than cut into full sheets of paper, and, lastly, the boy knows this is the area paper is kept that he can always use and he does.<br />
<br />
So, armed with big hunks of paper in reds and pinks, I started to cut. I went with a geometric heart and a couple other more classic heart shapes and cut until I ran out of scraps.<br />

Dressing the window was very simple. A few strings of ribbon (its nice to have a healthy stash of all sorts of ribbons. seam binding and wholesale floral supplies are your friends) strung to end to end and I stapled the hearts at will.<br />

While doing Studio Calico's Gratitude Documented E-Course, I sat down with Tyler to talk about being thankful and the things we appreciate in our lives. I wish I was on it enough to talk about this all year, but, HEY, Thanksgiving... its topical... Together we made a list then put a banner together so we would have our visual reminder all month long... (ps. chomping at the bit to start hanging garlands, BUT I will not... no sir...) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Supplies Needed: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Assorted Colored Cardstock</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Solid Paper </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Twine</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stapler </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Scissors </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Misc Embellishment (not required) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3LA8qpTeZWcmTcPnLV7avaNRaZBEHCDn7o8qZM1iBCwHid4Tb1us7pUsV36hbU0ghrITqkw4Ui2hqCxVG-m3FVu663OtCUZw6Kb4iDFexFL_p2rPRoUlchAnDYXLXzivGRWoEUF4JOj4/s1600/IMG_5316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3LA8qpTeZWcmTcPnLV7avaNRaZBEHCDn7o8qZM1iBCwHid4Tb1us7pUsV36hbU0ghrITqkw4Ui2hqCxVG-m3FVu663OtCUZw6Kb4iDFexFL_p2rPRoUlchAnDYXLXzivGRWoEUF4JOj4/s1600/IMG_5316.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This first and most important step of this project is simply to sit down and discuss gratitude and what we are thankful for. Tyler and I created a list while I prepped our supplies... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For prep, I pulled scraps of paper that matched my embellishments (omg I need to gush how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE projects that use my scrap!) and cut roughly 1/2" strips from copy paper. I also folded my scraps in half and cut them into random sized hunks ranging from 2" to 5".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-WtB9xO2WbIrwPMh_TCSz7aEC3UalgGylp72QKfTfz2HrL1l5n_kkdgI0PEz3oBILetQzGIdvkpvhvPjLuS1NR3_QtDlFYyuTjwWeKwa8Pte8mFBMpH0CKu-pgOLgDHFs9weXgK59B58/s1600/IMG_5314.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-WtB9xO2WbIrwPMh_TCSz7aEC3UalgGylp72QKfTfz2HrL1l5n_kkdgI0PEz3oBILetQzGIdvkpvhvPjLuS1NR3_QtDlFYyuTjwWeKwa8Pte8mFBMpH0CKu-pgOLgDHFs9weXgK59B58/s1600/IMG_5314.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While I rewrote the things we are thankful for on stripe of white paper (write in the middle of your write strips if you would like to create banners as we did), Tyler cut the flags/points into our banners. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX1lyJf0Yw0sxi86yCgWUsIcFJGXCo7W6m75Bf8wk0DqJ0zKpsOHEDP_vq6Gogr_1XeKzOoNBWW7TOtqfIqnYqoSBmhbKBdVU_veMiVE3WgAh_0-NoIfuW3DpTO1fC5KzAFaQXkRhRq_0/s1600/IMG_5321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX1lyJf0Yw0sxi86yCgWUsIcFJGXCo7W6m75Bf8wk0DqJ0zKpsOHEDP_vq6Gogr_1XeKzOoNBWW7TOtqfIqnYqoSBmhbKBdVU_veMiVE3WgAh_0-NoIfuW3DpTO1fC5KzAFaQXkRhRq_0/s1600/IMG_5321.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that all of our elements were prepared, we strung each banner flag on the twine and assembled the strips and embellishments (feathers from Basic Grey) using our stapler to secure each element. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiduhO7HzJ8junikQtyvgMl2Twlumaf7eL2-VtIZkAX2BCxE5Ee5b4dT5sPX8ASJorX5WR0YNYbzxgJm5d-4Qrnr4lJ_xDyY_WhtCBGhSGvpPNemYMi0CRHvIvFfdzHwe8LUTOxWUJVBJA/s1600/IMG_5341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiduhO7HzJ8junikQtyvgMl2Twlumaf7eL2-VtIZkAX2BCxE5Ee5b4dT5sPX8ASJorX5WR0YNYbzxgJm5d-4Qrnr4lJ_xDyY_WhtCBGhSGvpPNemYMi0CRHvIvFfdzHwe8LUTOxWUJVBJA/s1600/IMG_5341.JPG" height="398" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While this project is best for an older child (6+), I can see how each year the project can get more profound to both parent and child. This would also be fun to do on Thanksgiving day, handing each guests a strip and/or flag and every guest would be able to having their own thankful strips included. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Such a simple project, but so much meaning. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My supplies ended up being cardstock from American Crafts (cream) and the pale green that was embossed with a texture from Cordinations, paint from Ranger (a yellow, orange, red, and brown), along with a scrap of bubble wrap, lint roller from my sewing supplies, and a misc paint brush. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These supplies were easily gathered from my stash which is always a bonus on the frugality, but would also be very inexpensive to pop into a local craft store and pick up. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ttyQBC9lt6FDKtFJRh27hAHEbnSyl7gHkmjBnwpt-2v8HCLaoLRMUV99WgZKL0SnilB6MWWImg1SIG6CGr3dZaziB14YuGaGGaQVjr9gKquUjjuPNtRldTBtwtXsa7JOtMsYRxatbsQ/s1600/IMG_5308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ttyQBC9lt6FDKtFJRh27hAHEbnSyl7gHkmjBnwpt-2v8HCLaoLRMUV99WgZKL0SnilB6MWWImg1SIG6CGr3dZaziB14YuGaGGaQVjr9gKquUjjuPNtRldTBtwtXsa7JOtMsYRxatbsQ/s1600/IMG_5308.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once we had all of our supplies laid out, Tyler got to work on our background paper for the ears of indian corn by randomly applying our colors of paint on different areas of the bubble wrap covered lint roller. I did suggest to him that he not over lap the paint colors too much as they would mix and would end up the same color. This reminder was somewhat useful. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwbiz6cG9jjoKZ2O5Z4UVPl83Ibz5SKhvqE7EqntDzt7OWxsQHN26VXoO-5RSVq-pzrN-M7XS_BahR362_lJoifF4LXWIkGpgxef0AxrFq6R6GXyfq_DV7XyKKs942M2S-9cvKTd3KjUQ/s1600/IMG_5310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwbiz6cG9jjoKZ2O5Z4UVPl83Ibz5SKhvqE7EqntDzt7OWxsQHN26VXoO-5RSVq-pzrN-M7XS_BahR362_lJoifF4LXWIkGpgxef0AxrFq6R6GXyfq_DV7XyKKs942M2S-9cvKTd3KjUQ/s1600/IMG_5310.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once the paint mostly covered Tyler's roller, he rolled all over the paper until the entire piece of cardstock was covered with tiny dots or kernels of corn. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLuB_AAMsAAF4TlK0KY_QjEMuBaYfe4gUywMicdgMV-nhZIHWSvmPEdyY4DbIo6BdC_ppW3fcWwkKhavNyOGH6w64fb3JibR993CEMSjQnEmywq3p0SzPWW5SE9SMDq78aJ2-BhG8oC4/s1600/IMG_5332.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLuB_AAMsAAF4TlK0KY_QjEMuBaYfe4gUywMicdgMV-nhZIHWSvmPEdyY4DbIo6BdC_ppW3fcWwkKhavNyOGH6w64fb3JibR993CEMSjQnEmywq3p0SzPWW5SE9SMDq78aJ2-BhG8oC4/s1600/IMG_5332.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While the paint was drying, I created a cardboard template for the ears of corn. Once the paint had completely dried, Tyler turned the cardstock over and traced the ears of corn. He got 6 ears from each piece of 12x12 paper he made. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-waeeTQlwiVC2IwjHvHFWcHMHUGBKvAcOGg1c5stfOv7ZZq6edrQlO_-1avKmoOoLNedmBtnITGk1RD3ytF15hhZ_ojYbrhMs8EtEuiKp7oD-2ctYIsOgFWndlfK4vPm3V_0qIb6hTEw/s1600/IMG_5334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-waeeTQlwiVC2IwjHvHFWcHMHUGBKvAcOGg1c5stfOv7ZZq6edrQlO_-1avKmoOoLNedmBtnITGk1RD3ytF15hhZ_ojYbrhMs8EtEuiKp7oD-2ctYIsOgFWndlfK4vPm3V_0qIb6hTEw/s1600/IMG_5334.JPG" height="398" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I helped Tyler a bit more at this point and we free handed the husks of our ears of corn. he helped with placement and I trimmed the shape. Once our ears of corn were completed we mostly symmetrically attached them to the inner frame of an embroidery hoop with glue dots. I highly recommend adhesives such as <a href="http://www.gluedots.com/index.html">glue dots</a> when working with kiddos.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtVXaln0O6b1Xq7ZUh6FvfvXap0tTwRC3IAQR0zUG4xzrsW8i9PrF9TOp_-tGh3MiTmthNXKpBpyAB8r8Hqhyphenhyphenk8Jf-PYfjCLu5JgYXM4v5X_4JIN5y6cNuZngAKNLpSrYccKZykRVSbuQ/s1600/IMG_5339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtVXaln0O6b1Xq7ZUh6FvfvXap0tTwRC3IAQR0zUG4xzrsW8i9PrF9TOp_-tGh3MiTmthNXKpBpyAB8r8Hqhyphenhyphenk8Jf-PYfjCLu5JgYXM4v5X_4JIN5y6cNuZngAKNLpSrYccKZykRVSbuQ/s1600/IMG_5339.JPG" height="400" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After adding some ribbon from our stash, our new wreath was ready to hang and enjoy. We even have about a dozen more ears of indian corn to use to either decorate our Thanksgiving table, use as place cards, or even dish markers during our Thanksgiving festivities. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I did this craft with our 8 year old son, I do feel it can be done with younger children with just as little frustration. Very fun and very memorable craft to share! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Between the over excited use of my hands (yea, I'm one of those people who talks mostly with their hands...) the random dialog I spout when I get nervous, and in general my poor video editing skills, this video is a real hoot... Enjoy! Oh, there is a project in there too, but the glare makes it hard to see at times... Maybe I'll redo this post with photos...<br />

It has been MONTHS since I've even thought about blogging anything! Even crazier is that I actually have layouts to share! I've been on and off the project life bandwagon lately and my hands have been getting dirty, i mean happy with mixed media projects, but there I am with LAYOUTS!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LoduiF_pyVReOLTAcg6A1pU4vEPxWTR9OQVzC-GvhT1EktAybyACJuFlPr5rYmJJdrRXEKqsvYw1SkQQoHncbk2wgwLYDr9pW1kKafl-HcY9qSlpoKxZuy9uaRz9Z83qzLl__fvxK_Q/s1600/20140408_111938.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LoduiF_pyVReOLTAcg6A1pU4vEPxWTR9OQVzC-GvhT1EktAybyACJuFlPr5rYmJJdrRXEKqsvYw1SkQQoHncbk2wgwLYDr9pW1kKafl-HcY9qSlpoKxZuy9uaRz9Z83qzLl__fvxK_Q/s1600/20140408_111938.jpg" height="398" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really enjoyed creating a few layouts! The last layout was based on the <a href="http://backporchmemories.blogspot.com/p/guest-design-team-contest.html">BPM guest dt sketch</a>! Working on a few mini album assignments and an event i have been commissioned to design, but then i think it might be time to do some serious 12x12 sessions! </div>
<br />
<br />
Hope this week is treating everyone well!<br />

While I haven't made blogging a priority lately, I have made crafting. Lots of cutting on the cameo, glitter, rolls and rolls of scotch atg tape, a few paper cuts, and so on... CHA projects and holiday gifts are keeping my desk messy and fingers a little dirty. </div>
<br />

With the exception of husband & the kiddos, we have a completely handmade holiday this year. The projects I'm most proud of were the ones which resulted out of challenges. My uncle and cousin are impossible to buy for, nevermind craft for. BUT I DID IT! VICTORY! </div>

Last weekend was the bake-a-thon. No less than 40 dozen cookies were made using about 15 sticks of butter for family friends and co-workers. Only one minor injury was sustained during this process. <br />

I have been working on a december daily album, but this year i took a short cut in hopes of just finishing it this year. The holiday SMASH book from K&Co is perfect for me this year. AND i've managed to keep it mostly up to date. But, thats another post.<br />
<br />
So... how's it goin?<br />
sunshine&bunnies,<br />

Have you repurposed anything lately? I always seem to have lofty goals for re-invention, but it ends in infinite piles of projects waiting to be started/finished. Speaking of, this whole craftroom "redo" has lead to a large pile of unfinished projects that i will start posting once the room is finished... which may be never, but its a good idea....<br />

<br />
This past weekend, along with a handful of other families from the boy's school, I helped host a very fun Newlywed Game Party. This party served as a fundraiser for our elementary school as a sign up party at the PTA's annual auction. The home we hosted the party at was beautiful and a great (and EASY) location for the party. Decorations were minimal, but another host brought adorable succulents in painted tin cans (thank you Pintrest!) I gave the party's menu the old college try and ended up with the following:<br />
<br />
Mixed Greens Salad<br />
Brie on Pita Crisps w/ either honey/fig preserves/green onions<br />
Spinach Artichoke Dip served with Blue Corn Tortilla Chips<br />
Cheesy Pesto Bread<br />
Potato Nests w/ Salmon Dip<br />
Mini Lasagnas<br />
Basil Hummus<br />
Tomato / Mozerella skewers<br />
Simple Shrimp Skewers<br />
<br />
For Dessert I did Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes and Strawberry Cheesecake Cupcakes.<br />
<br />
I have recipes to share for pretty much all of this, but today I wanted to keep it simple and share a quick recipe for the cheesy garlic pesto bread because I am 100% certain it belongs at every backyard BBQ and family get together we are having this summer! That and we're getting into that time of year where basil grows like weeds around here.<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-size: large;">Garlic Pesto Cheesy Bread</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">1 Loaf French Bread</span><br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
5 Cloves Garlic, Minced</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
1/2c+ Pesto</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
8oz Shredded Mozzarella Cheese</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
Make deep cuts every 1/2 inch to 1 inch down the length of the loaf of bread. Your cuts should be all the way down the sides, but not cut down the bottom of the loaf. Mix the garlic and pesto together. Between each slice in your bread insert a generous teaspoon of the pesto mixture. Stuff the cheese between the slices and put the remaining cheese on top of the loaf. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #616161; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">
Wrap the loaf in toil and bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes until the cheese is all melted. You can also throw the foil wrapped bread onto the grill. Just keep an eye on it as heat and cooking times will vary.</div>
<br />
You can find the <a href="https://sites.google.com/site/hollystarprintablerecipes/garlic-pesto-cheesy-bread">printable recipe here</a>. Now, go forth and enjoy some garlic pesto cheesy bread!<br />

I was going to start stroller strides today, but thought i should take advantage of not having other reasons that i must leave. We can always take a walk in a bit and try out the classes tomorrow. </p>
<p dir=ltr>The Sampler revealed the may2013 kit today. Its super fun and a touch funky. I'm hoping to get some project life with it done. Yay!</p>
<p dir=ltr>Squish is down for a nap so I'm thinking i should hang more laundry and do some pta house keeping... Did i mention that i will be the pta vice president for this coming school year... Yea, that's happening. </p>

This makes me hopeful for all the awesome things I can get done... like cleaning... and cooking... and crafting... and cleaning...<br />
<br />
I finally feel like things are winding down, but at the same time other things are gearing up. I'm pretty sure at this point that when people have relaxing weekends, they are lying. I have no idea when the last time I had a relaxing weekend day was. Between get togethers, birthday parties, errands, planning, chores, etc we have had enjoyable weekends. just busy. and i do not see them stopping. Never mind that this summer is going to be amazing between road trips, birthday parties, visiting family, camping and i'm sure more. and by amazing i mean to say amazingly busy...<br />

<br />
Another thing to look forward to this summer will be the HEAT. I hate to be one of those who talks about the weather, but its been fairly flippin hot for this time of year here. Not cool weather. Literally, not cool. On that note, the flowers around here (and even in the yard!) are stunning. ok, maybe not in the yard... but they're thriving too! <br />

I have a teeny sneak peak to share from The Sampler Kit Club! The May2013 kit is full of fun colors and happy thoughts and shinies! I am super looking forward to the full reveal and playing with goodies! <br />

Its about 78F outside right now and all I can think about is happy hour at a local tacqueria right now... Something I fully plan on taking advantage of this summer! I think its time to work on our summer "bucket list" as a buddy of mine calls it.<br />
